this just in

As I was reading on the “top start-ups to look for in 2012″, I decided I would share my insights on a few (or many) in addition to getting your comments, of course.

I’ll start with codecademy, “the future of learning” and the new path to “coding mastery”. Well, I wouldn’t go that far. It is definitely coding for dummies and does a nice job of teaching the fundamentals; however, one should note that’s it’s not meant to make you this professionally slick insanely talented coder. For that, you should take a class… taught by a real human.

On the site, upon enrolling, is a simple box. In the box, you follow basic instructions starting with the fundamentals of coding your first name. The idea of having the box is clever, simple and fun.

The company raised $2.5 million upon starting and has around 500,000 enrolled. Cool, eh?

Of course, they aren’t perfect a perfect site… yet. That’s where you come into play. We’d love to hear your thoughts, insights and feedback on codecademy as a whole and the various ways it could improve, including better UI, flow, etc.
We’ve already got our thoughts ;)
Looking forward to sharing!
